April 1, 2025 (Llano) – The Llano area’s community hospital is entering a new chapter with a new identity and local governance. Effective today, MidCoast Medical Center – Central Llano becomes Llano Regional Hospital and will no longer be part of the MidCoast Health System.
Llano Regional Hospital will be an independent community hospital with local ownership and operations, governed by the volunteer members of the Llano County Hospital Authority.
As part of this transition, the hospital is expanding services, restructuring operations, and reinforcing its commitment to high-quality, local healthcare.
“This transition is more than a name change,” said Hatch Smith, Jr., CEO, Llano Regional Hospital. “We are resetting, reinforcing, and making sure our residents have the best primary, specialty, emergency, inpatient, and post-inpatient care possible, close to family and friends.”
The federally designated critical access hospital maintains a Level IV trauma facility; has 25 inpatient beds; and provides comprehensive primary and specialty care services through its outpatient clinic and departments.
“These are challenging times for rural healthcare, but we are committed to making sure our communities have access to local healthcare, when they need it,” said Pat McDowell, president, Llano County Hospital Authority. “We don’t want any of our friends or neighbors to have to travel to Burnet or Fredericksburg or even farther to Austin for a doctor’s visit, physical therapy session, or more intensive inpatient care when we can provide it right here in Llano.”
The hospital’s address and phone number remain the same:
200 W. Ollie Street, Llano
(325) 216-9199
The existing Llano Hospital Foundation, also stays the same and will support the hospital in its new form.
